Letur Caravaca and promote the pilgrimage route Santiaguista (22/03/2010)

Letur is the latest municipality to join the partnerships promoted by the city of Caravaca de la Cruz with the intention of promoting the Holy Year 2010 and seize the opportunities that the conclusion of an event of this nature.

The mayor of Caravaca, Domingo Aranda, and the Mayor of Letur, Maria del Carmen Alvarez, have signed the agreement in the presence of the CAM Regional President, Angel Martinez.

Caravaca de la Cruz and Letur share a rich history marked by the presence of the Order of Santiago.

In fact, the municipality Albacete is the beginning of the pilgrimage route Santiaguista, one of seven Caminos de la Vera Cruz.

In this sense, Aranda said the Letur is one of the most beautiful roads leading to Caravaca because "everything in it is steeped in history and emotions."

The mayor of Letur, meanwhile, said the link between the two municipalities comes from ancient, as evidenced by the parish of the town built in the fifteenth century, within which there is a relief of the Cross of Caravaca.

As part of this agreement is conducting various activities such as discounts at restaurants pilgrims and tourist accommodation and exchange of information and promotional material from the municipal tourist offices.

Also be exchanges of students and a pilgrimage in order to further strengthen ties between the two municipalities.

After signing the agreement, presented the book "Los Caminos de la Vera Cruz" and "The Pilgrim", the two publications produced by the CAM for the Holy Year 2010, which collected detailed information on the pilgrimage routes to Caravaca.

In these books refers to the way that some of Letur, crisscrossed by trails historically used by shepherds, herdsmen, traders, warriors and pilgrims.

The tour route begins Santiaguista in the Plaza Mayor, from there it runs along Arroyo Letur first and then dive into a sea of forests, and conifers, at first, and junipers, later.

Upon arrival at Sabinar (Moratalla), the route continues along the Camino de San Juan to the holy city of Caravaca de la Cruz.
