The image of Our Lord Jesus will look like next Easter restored (02/03/2010)

The image of Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno will look restored during the processions of Holy Week through the next restoration project run by Manuel Sanchez and Maria del Mar Sandoval under a collaboration agreement with the city of Caravaca de la Cruz.

The image, one of the most revered and representative of the Holy Week caravaqueña, has undergone a profound intervention over five months.

The original parts of the seventeenth century have undergone a phase of cleaning, removal of multiple offsetting, and a second stage coating, painting and varnishing reintegration.

The restorers have come to count up to seven layers of paint on the original color.

For its part, the carver caravaqueño Sunday Ródenas complete restoration with the completion of a new carved in wood anatomy.

"A radiographic study revealed that the internal structure of the image, made after the war, was in poor condition, so it was advisable to make a new body," reported the restorers, highlighting the significant damage suffered this size in the Civil War.

In recent years the city of Caravaca has made substantial efforts in the restoration of the heritage of Holy Week, returning the original splendor of the most representative images, and thrones.

For example, some parts restored in recent years have been the Lord's balcony, the Cristo de la Misericordia, the Christ of the Column and the Virgin of Sorrows, intervened in the Center for Restoration of the Region of Murcia.

For its part, the graduates in Fine Arts Manolo Sanchez and Maria del Mar Sandoval San Juan Evangelista have been restored, the Agony in the Garden and Christ's Arrest, among other pieces.

The results of the process of restoring the image of Our Lord Jesus were presented last night in the presence of the Councillor for Tourism and Celebrations, Gonzalo López-Auguy, the president of the Association of Guilds of Holy Week, Gil Lopez, the President of the Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno, Francisco Torralba, accompanied by the restorers Manolo Sánchez and María del Mar Sandoval and Sunday Ródenas carver.

The restored image of Our Lord Jesus is able to contemplate the next Thursday, March 5, in traditional besapié the hermitage of Santa Elena.
