The Socialist Party calls the collaboration of regional conservation and rehabilitation of the Alcazar Fortress Caravaca de la Cruz (21/07/2009)

The Socialist deputy for the constituency of North West, Jesus Lopez, has filed a motion in the Regional Assembly which called for support of the Regional Government for the conservation, rehabilitation and enhancement of the Alcazar Fortress-Caravaca.

Lopez said the poor state of deterioration suffered a major part of the walls of this landmark castle.

According to law, public authorities are obliged to cooperate with the owners of cultural assets to preserve them.

Socialist MP indicated that the development of a comprehensive project for the monument would allow the collaboration of regional and central government to restore and preserve the Alcazar Fortress-Caravaca.

The origin of the Fortress of Caravaca is probably the twelfth century AD, although by virtue of written information can ensure that their morphology and configuration, and resembled the current S.

Monumental building

The Alcazar-Fort consists of a set of 19 towers, 18 are already in the late Middle Ages, linked by a wall.

One of the towers (the Torre de la Cruz) is the head of the monumental building that houses the Vera Cruz de Caravaca, currently classified as a Minor Basilica.

The state of the faces of the walls and towers is worrisome, as they are appearing exudation, cracks and even fragments in a clear process of disintegration, especially around its east and north.

The Socialist deputy explained that the category, uniqueness and identity of the monument to the city, with the Shire and even with the region, make conservation the same can not be reduced at the expense of municipal resources.
