Phaedra will be performed at the Theatre de Caravaca week after its premiere in Naples and Merida (09/07/2009)

The mayor of Caravaca, Domingo Aranda, the Councillor for Culture, Maria Cruz Pérez, and the developer Jose Antonio Lopez have filed a news conference the poster of the week's Theatre, one of the classic activities of summer caravaqueño at its twenty-ninth issue will bring to the stage of the Plaza de Toros some outstanding performances and distributions of the current landscape of the performing arts.

Theatre Week, which takes place from 20 to 26 July, is the third oldest festival in the region and the most traditional cultural event held in the city.

One of the highlights of this edition is "Fedra", first performed last June at the Naples Theatre Festival and performed last week at the Festival of Merida.

"Fedra" will Caravaca after going through the stages of Sagunto, Cordoba, Salamanca and Peralada.

Performances begin on Monday 20 with "The Thin general," a comedy drama starring Sancho Gracia showing surreal situations set in the Civil War.

"Josefa's Holiday," which tells the story of an unwed mother and abandoned by her boyfriend for over 30 years, will Caravaca on Tuesday, 21 Maria Luisa Merlo, Belinda Washington and Carlos Lozano.

The argument of this work has triumphed in Paris, and now in Spain by the succession of stresses which have no other purpose than to make the audience laugh.

On Wednesday, 22 will be the turn of "Naked in Central Park, another well known face representation of the Spanish drama as Manuel Galiana and Emma Ozores.

This crazy comedy, directed by Jaime Azpilicueta, it deviates completely from anything seen so far in the theater of humor.

The comedy will give way to tragedy and dance, on Thursday 23 with the already mentioned "Phaedra" directed by Miguel Narros with music by Enrique Morente.

The last play directed at adults will be "A couple of fear" with Florentino Fernandez, Santiago Segura and Yuste Josema as protagonists of a terrific comedy set in the late nineteenth century.

As is traditional, young audiences will also have their place in the Theatre Week for the weekend with the Pilgrims, on Saturday 25 July, and "Blue Treasure" on Sunday 26 July.

The work of the Pilgrims, written by José Antonio López Navarro caravaqueño 'Jata', following its premiere at Caravaca will tour various cities within the promotional activities of the Holy Year 2010.

The quirky characters of the Jubilee will travel the Greenway, through the various towns through which it passes, to reach the Basilica de la Vera Cruz.

The ticket price is 15 euros and 12 for pensioners and students.

All performances will be in the Plaza de Toros at 23.00.

The two children's plays are free and begin at 20.30.
