A multidisciplinary team has begun work for the campaign XX paleoanthropologist and Archaeological Excavations at Cueva Negra del Río Quípar Strait.
During the next few weeks the teacher in the area of Physical Anthropology of the University of Murcia Michael Walker will lead the efforts in order to locate new Palaeolithic remains and fossil man.
Research conducted by scientists in the cave and subsequently analyzed in laboratories at Oxford (England) and Berkeley (USA) have found that the Black Cave contains the remains of about 800,000 years old, making this enclave of the incarnation as an international reference for the study of human evolution and the singular set "Acheulean-levaloisomusteroide" Europe's oldest.
Recent campaigns have resulted in the discovery of many remains of fauna and flora, and remnants of teeth and bone fragments of fossil man preneandertal European type or Homo heidelbergensis.
Each and every one of the excavated levels in the sediment (which reaches 5 feet deep) provide evidence of human presence or activity continuously without interruption.
Also in these layers have been found remains of elephants, rhinoceros, giant deer, bison, monkeys, hyenas, bears, and more than sixty species of birds, which show the presence of ecologically diverse environments around our cave, where man biodiversity enjoyed primitive provided by the proximity of lakes and wetlands, riparian forests of the valley, steppe plateau, steep slopes of the mountains, and so on.
As has happened in recent years, at the end of the campaign, Professor Walker, accompanied by the mayor of Caravaca, state the findings and advances in the research conducted this summer.
