Caravaca City Council approved in the plenary session held last night a Municipal Plan for Drug Prevention with the goal of providing the entire population with sufficient information on concepts and effects related to drug use and work in the field of prevention from different municipal areas in coordination with social groups.

The councilman of Social Promotion, Carmen Ruiz, justified the implementation of this plan, backed by the three political groups represented on the board, argued that drug use is a social problem, which particularly affects young people, and that mitigate the need to promote values education and healthy lifestyle.

For the development of its objectives, the Municipal Plan Drug Prevention includes measures aimed at different segments of population, taking the form of workshops for students, advertising campaigns, parent education programs, alternative leisure and recreation for weekends , promoting volunteerism and increased enforcement actions by the Police, among others.

In the plenary also approved three amendments tabled by the Socialist Municipal mainly related to the inclusion of the objectives of the Plan for the 2005-2010 School Health and absenteeism control and surveillance in the vicinity of schools by Local Police and other security forces.

Mulero Ruiz explained that the development of the plan have held regular meetings with parents' associations, youth groups, Fundación Proyecto Hombre, the staff of the Center for Mental Health and addictions technicians Commonwealth of Social Services, among other groups of caravaqueña society.

In developing this plan has involved the departments of Youth, Social Welfare, Health, Education, Sports and Public Safety.

Moreover, in the final plenary political groups unanimously approved the ratification of the Charter of Aalborg Charter of 1994 for the implementation of Agenda 21 in Caravaca with which they are intended to promote measures aimed at sustainable development in the municipality.

Also was on the table the motion of the United Left + Greens on the need for legislation to regulate outdoor lighting, prevention of light pollution and the protection of the night and is rejected the motion tabled by the PSOE on the definitive statement of the records of a Cultural (BIC), opened in this town, and a family sport initiative.
