The Friends of the Saharawi people congratulated the corridor is more than commendable position

The caravaqueño athlete, member of the Association of Friends of the Saharawi people of Northwest, Emilio Perez has achieved a more than creditable third place in the Sahara Marathon, a grueling sporting event in its ninth edition has brought together over 500 participants from different countries, including a large Spanish group led by world champion Martin Fiz.

Emilio Perez has managed a time of 3:02:36 at a distance of 42 kilometers at its first participation in the race.

The Association of Friends of the Saharawi people of Northwest gives his most enthusiastic congratulations to Emilio Perez for their success in the Sahara Marathon after having won the third place to cover the distance over 42 km between Laayoune and Smara camps in the desert Algeria, where they remain in exile for more than 180,000 Sahrawi refugees for 34 years.

The pair made by Emilio Perez Marin and Encarna Sánchez Corbalán broke past day 20 to the Tindouf refugee camps to participate in this event which this year celebrates its ninth edition.

The couple caravaqueña participated last summer in the childcare program Saharawi HOLIDAY PEACE and also to help spread the cause of independence of the Saharawi people, launched an initiative with the Association of Friends of the Saharawi people to raising funds to move humanitarian aid to refugee camps.

Emilio stated that we had prepared thoroughly this test, but did not expect to achieve this magnificent result, getting placed third overall and first in the ranking of Spanish participants.

Emilio and Encarna also had clear proof that this was very special as it contributed to support the Saharawi people's cause, with which they are fully identified.

The Sahara Marathon is supposed to be one of the toughest races among its class.

Organized for solidarity, it would draw international attention to the dramatic situation faced by the 200,000 Saharawi accommodated in refugee camps in the Algerian desert.

This year 500 runners participated in 20 countries.

The Spanish have been the most numerous, with representatives from all the Autonomous Communities.
