"The day that changed the history of Spanish sport" (01/02/2016)

"A la ville de ... Barcelona".

Almost 30 years ago, the October 17, 1986, the Spanish businessman and politician Juan Antonio Samaranch, IOC President spoke these words in Lausanne, words that would change the history of Spanish sport.

The designation of the Spanish city to host the 1992 Olympic Games would entail a major social, urban and cultural transformations of international history.

Class facilities were created rounds into the city were renewed, the most disadvantaged neighborhoods were integrated.

In short, the city opened the world to become an international tourist reference is today.

This transformation lasts over time and is palpable years later with a simple visit to the city.

However, what few people show is the metamorphosis that suffered the Spanish sport since that year, becoming a first power level and harvest tenfold Olympic medals.

This result and its maintenance over time is not coincidental, but a long-term project supported by some very solid foundations, centralized in the ADO Program.

This program, created in 1988, gives the best Spanish athletes of economic and social means to facilitate the achievement of the objectives.

It also includes a deserved recognition of the work of the technicians and encourages the creation of plans, in conjunction with sports federations, to promote concentration, sports research, medical help, etc.

Such programs not only can but must be extrapolated to autonomous communities and of course universities municipalities throughout the Spanish geography.

In this sense, our local group last month proposed a motion to the full City Council Caravaca with the firm intention to launch and develop a solid project to promote sport in our town, from the base to the top.

This is a project with high-mindedness that allows regulation of sports subsidies according a preset criteria for both individual athletes to clubs and sporting events.

Such aid should be governed by fair and rigorous basis, put in value the different characteristics of each of the sports, thus ensuring minimum standards of quality and demanding that our clubs and their activities become true champions of our city.

As is the case with the ADO plan, a program to endure over time and get fruitful results should not be based only on an economic boost but should have a determining social support.

Hence our proposal to include in this program different measures, hardly involve costs to the municipal coffers, allow an extra productivity give our young people, such as facilities to reconcile his academic and athletic career, easy access to sports facilities, control programs, medical monitoring, physiotherapy, sports psychology.

In short, create the tutor that allows for both sporting and personal advice and made available to our athletes all existing means.

This program would be strongly supported by the recent measures adopted by the Regional Government, known as "sports sponsorship", which came into force on January 1, and allows companies receive substantial tax incentives to support and sponsorship of sports associations.

These actions may benefit more than thirty federated clubs competing every weekend across the country with the name of our city flag, in over twenty different sports, and more than 1,500 children who practice sports in our city schools and are the main engine of this complex system.

The motivation to face difficult challenges power effort, self-sacrifice and discipline, essential values in the education of our young people so they must be backed by different sectors.

A city like Caravaca de la Cruz, in the axis of development is a key tourism, you can not sail adrift.

Relatively speaking, Barcelona 92 is an example to follow, a mirror to look at us, so we must demand serious and innovative projects, quality events, sports-oriented visitors, achievable programs.

Since our group will continue working in this direction, showing our disagreement when we consider necessary to redirect the course, but giving our support without hesitation apex constructive measures that are in place.
