The mayor of Caravaca, Jose Moreno, and the older sister of the Brotherhood of Vera Cruz, Elisa Giménez-Giron, have received a delegation of representatives of major religious tourism operators in Italy.

"The main potential lies in Caravaca religious tourism around Vera Cruz, but both the city and the entire Northwest Region has important natural, heritage and archaeological values, with the effort of all administrations and so coordinated, will enhance, not only ahead of the appointment of the Jubilee of 2017, but as a permanent tourist destination ", said the mayor.

The delegation is composed six of the most important specialized in religious tourism in Italy (Brevivet, L'Occitane Voyages SNC, Web Mail, Evolution Travel, Karma Viaggi and All in Travel) tour operators, participating this week in a six-day trip familiarization, which is leading them to visit the main tourist attractions of the region.

This action is limited in the Promotion Plan of the Jubilee Year that started the Ministry of Tourism of the Autonomous Community in partnership with the City of Caravaca de la Cruz and entrepreneurs, which includes attendance at fairs, presentations, 'workshops 'familiarization trips and business contacts covering more than 50 religious Italian tour operators.

Italy is considered one of the main consumers of religious tourism.

From January to September 2015, the region received 14,985 Italian tourists, representing 23.6 percent more than in the same period of 2014. Also during this period 10,124 Italian travelers stayed in hotels in the region, 5.4 percent more than the previous year.
