The Year Teresian ended with more than 16,200 entries to the church of San José and 5,500 attendees tours (22/10/2015)

According to data collected by the Department of Tourism of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, the Teresian year has closed with a balance of 16,231 visitors to the church of San José and 5,503 participants in the guided tours offered by the premises of the former Carmelite convent .

As for the origin of tourists, it is noteworthy that this monumental space, located on Main Street, has been visited by people from 33 municipalities of the Region of Murcia;

53 Spanish provinces and 41 countries on five continents.

"Statistics show the interest and potential of religious tourism and particularly the impact it has had the commemoration of the V Centenary of the Birth of Saint Teresa of Jesus in 17 cities linked to the tourist route and cultural Footprints", as highlighted the Councillor for Tourism, Gloria Gomez.

The greatest concentration of visitors was recorded in November and December 2014, with 4,260 entries to the church of San José, and in April 2015 with 2,218.

Regarding guided by former cloistered convent visits, the greatest number of visitors came in the month of November 2014, with about 900 people from the audience.

In addition to the guided tours that allow actual and didactic know forms a space reserved for the closing, the Teresian Year has been embraced by many religious activities, social and cultural, promoted by the City of Caravaca and the Community of the Carmelite Fathers bare Caravaca.

These activities came to an end last week with the closing of the Jubilee by the bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena;

the concert by the quintet "Ginés Pérez de la Parra" and the procession with the image of Santa Teresa from the Carmelite church to the church of San José.

Over the past year, numerous institutions and groups have joined across Spain to V Centenario, such as ONCE, which issued five million coupons dedicated to Caravaca de la Cruz, or Radio Spanish Television, which produced the documentary series 'walks among the pots also the Lord', about the life, personality and work of Teresa of Jesus, with special attention to the cuisine.

On the occasion of the celebration of the V Centenary of the Birth of the Holy, Caravaca de la Cruz received, along with 16 other Spanish cities, the title of "Teresian City" by the Carmelite Order.

The "Twin Cities by Santa Teresa" are Avila, Soria, Burgos, Palencia, Valladolid, Medina del Campo, Segovia, Salamanca, Alba de Tormes, Pastrana, Toledo, Malagon, Villanueva de la Jara, Beas, Caravaca de la Cruz, Seville and Granada.

Within this joint project, it was launched the tourist, cultural and gastronomic tour "Traces of Teresa".
