'Last Brushstrokes' shown in Caravaca an important collection of Spanish Baroque (16/02/2015)

The exhibition "Brushstrokes of the Past" brings to Caravaca de la Cruz a representation of Spanish Baroque painting.

From February 18 to March 12 in the exhibition hall of the old Society of Jesus enjoys superb art collection consists of works by artists of the stature of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo and Juan Valdés Leal and Zurbarán paintings Workshop or circle of Ribalta.

This exhibition is part of the actions promoted by the City of Caravaca de la Cruz on the occasion of the V Centenary of the Birth of St. Teresa of Jesus and the implementation of cultural tourist route "Traces of Teresa".

On this occasion he has enjoyed the cooperation of the Ministry of Culture, through its Directorate General for Cultural Property, and the Foundation Board of Santa Isabel de Villanueva del Rio.

The exhibition features twenty religious works of classical and baroque trend, 15 of the collection of works of art that currently owns the Santa Isabel Foundation Board of Villanueva del Río Segura, who has been the subject of study, analysis and treatment restoration in the last two years and five emblematic works from the Museum of Fine Arts in Murcia (MUBAM).

The pieces once belonged, for the most part, the collection of León García Pizarro Madrid, probably collected in the eighteenth century in Andalusia, Madrid and Latin America and continued by his immediate family, to be dismembered during the nineteenth century.

Its last owner Baltasara Isabel López y López ceded by testamentary will Asylum Hospital of Villanueva del Segura.

The exhibition includes representatives from some of the most emblematic figures of Spanish and European Baroque.

Most are pictures of religious themes, highlighting the splendid Santa Inés work of a follower of the Bolognese painter Guido Reni (1575-1642).

The Spanish Baroque naturalism highlights the works of the Andalusian school for their quality, especially the Seville school of the seventeenth century.

Furthermore, we highlight the representative work of the Valencian school: María Magdalena and San Juan Evangelista circle of Ribalta.

Within the religious painting outstanding quality and plasticity thereof, as best shown Spanish Baroque, to members of the permanent collection of MUBAM: Ecce Homo by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, the Santos Juanes Juan Valdés Leal or Eucharistic Allegory Workshop Zurbarán.

The exhibition will be open to the public from February 18 to March 12, from 11.00 to 13.30 and from 17.30 to 20.30.
