Denounce the award of public forests for hunting caravaca (04/02/2015)

The Directorate General Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water of Murcia has awarded the use for hunting most of the public forests, including protected areas, which also affected our closest mountains, particularly near the 50% of the protected area of the ZEC (special area of conservation) Gavilan, where the mountains fall following: Los Enebrales, Cave Valero, La Alberquilla and The Nevazo.

In total 1,800 hectares, for a period of five years, extendable, all without a prior consultation to municipalities concerned.

Before this we have to express our surprise, given that it is mountains which are within relatively close to the town of Caravaca and comprise areas that are usual hiking and other protected areas of the Natura 2000 network, activities on the environment, and the negative impact it can make to protected species, especially birds of prey, which have their natural habitat in these mountains.

The Plan document Integrated Management of Protected Areas Natura 2000 Network Northwest, November 2013, even when not finally adopted, provides essential information to consider in relation to the ZEC Gavilan, so we understand that hunting may be inconsistent with the values to be protected and in any case was not provided for in these mountains.

Are affected, at least three recreational areas, one of the best known is the Nevazo, within the area allocated for hunting, along with a network of 6 trails of low, medium and high difficulty that are used by a significant number of hikers, with the risk that entails the presence of hunters.

Therefore, said Alfonso Sánchez, we can not admit that, while Management Plans in its final stage for final approval and revenue for the coffers of the Autonomous Community of very little importance, as they have tendered our nearby mountains by 3105.12 euros, if we translate a hectare per year, we get 0.33 Euros / ha / year, has been committed, thus exploiting hunting of some public forests of important environmental value, clear prejudice the tourist use on the environment, and overall entertainment respectful with it, without have assessed the impact and negative impacts that may interfere with the conservation of this important ZEC values.

Therefore, we proposed the Plenary Council, the following agreement:

Urge that the Directorate General Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water to review the awards and the impact of hunting farms awarded in public forests of Caravaca affecting the protected areas of the Natura 2000 network and where appropriate, subject to the timely reports are reviewed by trade and be rescinded awards hunting corresponding to the mountains, Los Enebrales, Cave Valero, La Alberquilla and The Nevazo.
