The Civil Guard detained the owner of a company for the execution of works near a Roman archaeological site (03/12/2014)

The operation 'THERMAS' has been developed in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Tourism and Heritage of the Region of Murcia

The Civil Guard in the region of Murcia, under the 'Plan for the defense of Spanish Historical Heritage' has developed the operation 'THERMAS' research aimed at establishing an alleged offense against Heritage, which has resulted in the detention of a person who is credited with allegedly carrying out works in the protection zone of a Roman site listed as a Cultural Interest.

The operation is framed in the 'Plan for the defense of Spanish Historical Heritage', launched by the Civil Guard and has involved carrying out specific service devices in order to increase the security of Spanish Historical Heritage and reduce the activity criminal in this sector.

The investigation began last September by the Civil Guards of Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA), was developed in the Murcia town of Caravaca de la Cruz, where he had detected the installation of a fence of metal plates with a height of three meters, in the vicinity of Roman baths declared of cultural interest.

The Civil Guard have known that these baths were part of an agricultural character villa located in the valley of the river Argos, whose remains were found between 1976 and 1979. The site dates from the first century.

Collaboration with inspectors Heritage of the Region of Murcia

Inspections carried out by specialists SEPRONA Civil Guard inspectors in collaboration with the Culture, Tourism and Heritage of the Region of Murcia, have determined that the construction invades the protection area well protected archaeological plus cause considerable visual impact thereon.

The company responsible for the above construction dedicated to the management and remediation of waste, lacked at the time of inspection, the necessary authorizations and licenses to perform such works.

The operation 'THERMAS' has culminated in the arrest of the owner of the company responsible for the work, which is credited with authorship of the crime alleged against historical heritage.

The arrest and the proceedings have been delivered in the Court of Instruction No. 2 of Caravaca de la Cruz (Murcia).
