Environment takes all the measures to prevent the weevil despite the spread of the pest (27/10/2014)

The palm had received preventive treatment 20 days before and during the last two years

The Department of Environment of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz is taking all precautionary measures at its disposal to prevent the spread of the plague of "Red Weevil" that affects several species of palm tree.

"Given the explanations required by the PSOE and allegations of inaction on the part of the Department that address, I recall once again the measures we have been taking," stressed the mayor Maria Antonia Alvarez Jorquera.

In the past two years has been making a preventive treatment (there are no curative) quarterly public palms phases with extra palm trees considered particularly vulnerable by technical treatment.

Through the "Ecojardín" service Apcom association scrupulously applied the recommended pesticide treatments.

On October 31, 2012, the Department of Environment confirmed the appearance of the first palm affected by this plague, located in a private garden.

Also, after the first case detected, an edict that all owners of palms was reported in private grounds of the measures to be taken to prevent the spread was issued.
