The Plan Infomur concerning the effective fight against forest fires (19/12/2011)

Civil Protection Volunteers Caravaca de la Cruz and other cities of the Northwest gathered last Friday at the close of the Civil Emergency Plan for Wildfires in the Region of Murcia 2011 (Infomur Plan).

The closing ceremony was chaired by the mayor, Domingo Aranda, and presidential advisor, Manuel Campos, who stressed the commitment and willingness of volunteers to protect the natural heritage of Caravaca de la Cruz, and by extension the region, becoming a international benchmark in the fight against forest fires.

During the closing ceremony of the Plan Informur 2011, which presented the awards to the volunteers with the highest number of guards and services performed, also highlighted the role played by Civil Protection following the earthquake of Lorca.

During 2011, in the town of Caravaca de la Cruz have taken place only two wildfires that have burned 0.0128 hectares.

The two incidents occurred in March and October, ie, outside the high risk season.

The Civil Protection service in Caravaca de la Cruz is responsible for performing mobile surveillance and early detection of forest fires in the Sierra de las Cabras and the Sierra del Gavilan, a task in which they operate daily during the high risk season two pairs of volunteers.

To this end, the Autonomous Community with the City subsidizes 15,128 euros.

For monitoring of the mountains, the town has a fixed guardhouse at the peak of the Nevazo, which runs from 8:00 am to 00:00 pm in the medium and time of danger 24 hours a day in time high hazard.

As for extinction, the Consortium for Fire Fighting and Rescue Region of Murcia has in Caravaca de la Cruz a fire station with a total of 26 firefighters and 11 vehicles.

This fire fighting is reinforced by a brigade forest and rapid intervention brigade, both active throughout the year, belonging to the Ministry of the Presidency.

For its part, the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine located in La Alberquillas a helicopter bomber fighting forest fires.
