Geoeventos International Congress met in Caravaca de la Cruz to 160 scientists, coming from different European countries to participate in scientific sessions on advances in geological and environmental problems of the XXI century.
The mayor of Caravaca, Domingo Aranda, was pleased by the excellent reception in the scientific field for this event, organized by the City of Caravaca and the European Association for the Conservation of Geological Heritage (ProGEO) with the collaboration of twenty institutions, scientific societies, universities, municipalities and foundations.
The conference is a continuation of that held in the Jubilee Year 2003 in the name of Bioeventos.
In this conference, as well as various scientific sessions are planned trips to geological sites of Murcia, Almeria and Teruel.
The participating scientists have also had the opportunity to visit the Black Layer Gredero Barranco de Caravaca de la Cruz, a place of international geological interest, which shows the meteorite impact and the extinction of Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary 65 million years ago.
In order to bring this activity to the public, is scheduled to hold two conferences in the Halls Castillo de la Cruz: "Contingency man out of Africa", scheduled for today at 18.00, and "geological hazards the Betic ", scheduled for tomorrow at 19.00.
Also, tomorrow, Friday, will be open an exhibition at the Casa de la Cultura Emilio Sáez called "Fossils of the Murcia Region."
