The program includes two public lectures and an exhibition of fossils from the Region
Some 160 experts will discuss the latest geological and environmental problems of the XXI century in the framework of the International Conference Geoeventos and Geological Heritage, to be held from 15 to 18 September in Caravaca de la Cruz.
This event, which has been very successful in science, has been presented by the Mayor of Caravaca, Domingo Aranda, accompanied by the coordinator of the conference, Mark Lamolda, and professor at the University of Murcia, Francisco Guillén.
This international conference, held in Caravaca to coincide with the Holy Year 2010, aims to bring geology to the public as one of the keys to understanding and caring for the planet.
To this end, we have scheduled two public lectures called "Contingencies in the output of man in Africa" and "Geological hazards in the Betic Cordillera, in addition to information about fossils in the Region of Murcia.
Participants will present 100 scientific papers and are expected to participate in several geological excursions in Murcia, Teruel and Almeria.
Also, visit the Black Coat of Caravaca Gredero Ravine, as the most important region of Murcia in terms of geological heritage.
15 to 18 September will be a meeting of the International Geological Correlation Program, the symposium Geoeventos, the first working group meeting of the European Association for Conservation of Geological Heritage and a course for secondary school teachers on the Betic.
The conference is organized by the European Association for the Conservation of Geological Heritage (ProGEO), the City of Caravaca, the Center for Language and Communication of Cehegín, the Spanish National Committee of Geological Correlation Program (IGCP) and the Geological Society of Spain (Commission on Geological Heritage).
They also work twenty institutions, including scientific societies, universities, municipalities and foundations.
