The Ministry of the Presidency and Development has automated the traffic lights existing in the crossing of the RM-711, in the hamlet of Los Prados, which regulate two pedestrian crossings, with the intersection with the RM-C23 through which La Encarnación, which allows people with disabilities to activate them from their mobile phone.
The general director of Roads, José Antonio Fernández Lladó, participated today in his commissioning in which he explained that, the change of programming allows the automatic regulation of one of the steps of pedestrians by means of the activation of manual pulsator installed in the column of the traffic lights, in addition to the mobile telephony application, "which allows blind pedestrians or another disabled person to cross without the need to activate the manual push button".
Fernández Lladó said that this action is the first that is done in the regional road network, "because it is normally a facility of roads that run in urban areas that are usually municipal competition."
"We have made this exceptional intervention because we wanted to guarantee the road safety of people with disabilities living in the area in order to safely cross this street," said the director, who stressed that the RM-711 highway, which connects Caravaca de la Cruz with Lorca, has a high traffic intensity with an annual circulation of more than 1,100,000 vehicles, of which more than 123,700 are heavy.
The general director of Roads reported that the reform of the existing traffic light installation has involved an investment of more than 15,000 euros.
