The greenways

The greenways are old disused railway stretches, which have been transformed into roads and ecological routes at the service of hikers and cyclists.

Thanks to the accessibility, ease and safety of the routes are especially attractive for children, elderly or people with disabilities.

The Vías Verdes program emerged in the early 1990s, following the initiative of the Ministry of the Environment, in collaboration with RENFE and FEVE, autonomous communities, as well as cycling groups, ecologists and citizen groups.

The Greenway of the Northwest was launched more than a decade ago and since then it has been managed and conditioned by the Tourism Consortium made up of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the town councils of the route.

The route, which runs along 78 kilometers between Murcia and Caravaca de la Cruz, offers varied landscapes, arid and fertile, almond and pine groves and monumental villages.

Along the itinerary are different rest areas and a network of hostels, with accommodation, catering and tourist activities.

The Greenway of the Northwest of the Northwest allows to respectfully enjoy a privileged environment and full of history.
