Barranda this weekend becomes the epicenter of popular culture with the 39th Party of the Gangs. The festival, of National Tourist Interest, includes the Days on Oral Tradition, the 'Barranda Folk' and the Market of Peasant Traditions (26/01/2017)

During the day of Sunday, 12 rounds, pandas and bands of traditional music will take the streets of the caravaqueña

Barranda this weekend becomes the epicenter of folklore and music of oral tradition with the celebration of the 39th edition of the Party of the Gangs, declared of National Tourist Interest.

The Conference on Culture of Oral Tradition, the festival 'Barranda Folk', the Market of Traditions Campesinas and the meeting of rounds, pandas and crews are the three main events that houses the caravaqueña, organized by the Aguilanderos de Barranda, with the collaboration With the City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz and the Institute of Cultural and Arts Industries, as well as various sponsoring firms.

The activities in this 39th edition will start tomorrow, Friday 27, with the Conference on Culture of Oral Tradition and the XV Course 'Folklore and school'.

After the welcome and delivery of didactic materials to the participants, at 18.15 hours, the company 'La Chana Teatro' will represent 'Noé', in the Museum of Ethnic Music.

At 7 pm, the activity will be transferred to the José Salcedo Social Center, with the round table 'Memory of Barranda: Vidas vividas', in which Antonio Ruiz, José Toral and Diego Navarro will take part.

It will culminate with a wine tasting of Bodegas Hijos de Juan Gil, Jumilla.

The activities of the day on Friday will come to an end with the first concert of the festival 'Barranda Folk', by the hand of the Basque band 'Korrontzi'.

The performance will start at 11.00 pm and the ticket price is 5 euros.

On Saturday, January 28, from 9:00 am, the course 'Folklore and School' will be resumed, with the interventions of Alonso Palacios ('Other ways of telling stories'), Pep Sempere ('Telling Children'), Federico Martín ('Posadas y pregones') and Celso Fernández ('Count').

In the afternoon, at 4.30 pm, the Aguanderos de Barranda pay homage to José Clemente Rubio, with the presence of the Cuadrilla del Campo San Juan, El Sabina and the Calar de la Santa, of which he is a member.

Another of the novelties of this year is the pictorial-musical recital, by Leticia Ruifernández, Patxi Zubizarreta and Manuel Montiel, which will take place at 18.00 hours on Saturday at the Virgen de la Candelaria school.

The children also have a space in the program prior to the Party of the Gangs, with the theatrical performance of 'Vulgarcito', by the company 'La Chana teatro', which is held on Saturday, 28, at 20.00, In the Social Center.

The festival 'Barranda Folk' will count on its second day with the groups 'Aulaga Folk', Extremadura ethnic rhythms and progressive folk, which disseminates the tradition of popular music.

They will be accompanied by the sevillian band from Mistura, El Gueto con botas.

The proceedings will begin at 11:00 pm at the José Salcedo Social Center.

The entrance fee is 10 euros.

Throughout the weekend, people who come to the village of Barranda will be able to purchase gastronomic products and typical handicrafts in the Mercado de Tradiciones Campesinas, where there will be free tastings and workshops demonstrating the distillation of aromatic plants or pleita, among other trades.

The party of the squads proper will start at 10.00 on Sunday, 29, with the traditional Mass in the church of Candelaria, which will be locked by the Animeros of Cehegín.

Then, in the streets of Barranda, the following formations will take place: Aledo's Squad, Ramos Zarcilla's Squad, Caravaca de la Cruz Animeros, Cehegín's Animeros, the Campo San Juan Gang, Sabinar and Calar Santa (Moratalla), the Squad of Purias (Lorca), the squad of Zarcilla de Ramos (Lorca), the Cuadrilla de Patiño (Murcia) and the hosts, the Aguanderos de Barranda (Caravaca de la Cruz).

From outside the Region will participate the Verdiales Panda Baños del Carmen (Malaga);

Of Albacete, the Round of the Llanos and Cuadrilla Aire Serrano de Yeste;

And Colla Brials (Valencia).

The Fiesta de las Cuadrillas is a pioneer in its kind and has become a classic among the popular festivals of the area, being able to gather several thousand people who come with the incentive to enjoy a whole day with music Popular, turning the streets of this town into a huge popular stage where you play, dance and enjoy food and wine.

They are celebrated from the year 1979, every last Sunday of January, inside the celebrations of the Virgin of the Candelaria.

This demonstration has a permanent showcase at the Museum of Ethnic Music in Barranda-Blanco Fadol Collection, which contains a complete sample of musical instruments from the five continents.
