More than 3,000 Northwest students participate in activities to prevent drug use (24/01/2017)

The Councilor for Social Services in the City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz, Mª José Soria, visited one of the educational workshops that are being developed in secondary schools, within the Regional Plan for the Prevention of Drug Addiction.

Accompanied by the president of the Commonwealth of Social Services of the Northwest, María José Rosa, and the technician in the prevention of this organism, Mónica Sánchez, edil Caravaqueña stressed "the important scope that this preventive program is having, with the participation of more than 3,000 students from ten schools in the Northwest Region ".

Young people are involved in activities and group dynamics based on non-specific prevention, which do not directly address the issue of drugs, but rather work on values ​​to try to avoid or abandon the use of these substances.

The Regional Plan for the Prevention of Drug Addiction is financed by the Ministry of Health, with the collaboration of the municipalities of Caravaca de la Cruz, Calasparra, Cehegín and Moratalla.

The 'Cinema and education in values' workshop is currently underway, aimed at students from 1st and 2nd year of ESO, where, through screenings and social gatherings, cinema is used as a tool that helps in the Process of socialization of the minor, transmitting reference models.

On the other hand, another program is also being offered, aimed at 3rd and 4th grade students from ESO and Basic Training, aimed at preventing drug and alcohol use.

During the sessions in the classroom, the myths and realities linked to alcohol and tobacco are addressed, different types of drugs are classified according to the effect they produce in the brain and healthy leisure alternatives are shown.

The technicians responsible for the development of the program also analyze the influence of the media and publicity, as well as the pressure exerted by the peer group when starting to use addictive substances.

Finally, the 'Argos' program will also be launched, whose target group is the 1st grade students, in which teachers and medical staff carry out different activities with the motto 'Alcohol awareness with science'.
