The City of Caravaca de la Cruz, in coordination with the schools in the municipality, will continue this coming academic year with the measures included in the 'Municipal Plan for the Prevention, Monitoring and Control Truancy', which contains a set of guidelines for direct and personal attention of students from primary and secondary schools with problems affecting the regular classroom attendance.
The Councillor for Education, Esther Poveda, positively evaluated the results obtained during the course 2015/2016 through the program, which was financed with 9,000 euros by the Ministry of Education and Universities and the City of Caravaca de the cross.
In this regard, he reported that "last year a total of 29 municipal technicians records of absenteeism were derived, the largest number of them from 1st of Secondary Education and Basic Training".
Among the causes of absenteeism detected during the past year is bullying, academic failure or demotivation.
Thus, students dominate a number of features such as lack of study habits, lack of social skills, curriculum gap or a difficult family and economic situation.
Moreover, the mayor who heads the Education area in the Consistory caravaqueño also evaluated the success of the 'Action Plan Alternatives to Expulsion', which formed part 49 students with disciplinary measures during the course 2015/2016.
"Throughout the four school courses that has been running the program, it has been established gradually as an alternative to expulsion at home, with a largely positive response, since 81.63% attends the program before a 18.36% which is not involved, "reported Poveda, who has advanced the work that the technicians responsible for the program being developed will be reinforced with Emotional Intelligence workshops aimed at students.
"Also in the last Municipal School Board, will study the possibility of introducing the figure of the police-tutor in schools in the municipality," he added.
"The ultimate goal of both the schools and the authorities should be to reduce absenteeism and reduce dropout rates, promoting the full integration of students into the education system," he recalled the Councillor in relation to 'Plan of Alternative Measures the expulsion'.
Truancy is defined as the lack of attendance, frequent or continuous (more than 20% of teaching time), the lower age students, who attended the teaching of basic education.
