Caravaca joins the commemoration of the 'International Day Against Homophobia' (17/05/2016)

The community of Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals, Bisexuals and Intersex (LGBTI) has achieved great progress in terms of equality since May 17 was declared 'International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia', a date that coincides with the elimination of homosexuality from the list of mental illnesses by the General Assembly of the World Health Organization (wHO), a fact that took place in 1990.

On the balcony of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, as in thousands of institutions worldwide, hangs, for the first time, the rainbow flag to mark the "International Day Against Homophobia 'as an act of respect and recognition rights group said.

On 26 September 2014 the Human Rights Council of the United Nations adopted a resolution to combat violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

It was presented by 42 cosponsors, including Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, Bolivia, the United States and several European countries.

One of the great achievements in this area is the legalization of marriage with the possibility of exercising the adoption, something that is allowed in countries around the world, even in very religious and conservative nations.

Equal marriage has already been approved in more than 20 countries.

Holland was a pioneer, having ratified in 2000 equal measure.

It is also legal in countries like Belgium (2003), Canada and Spain (2005), South Africa (2006), Norway and Sweden (2009), Portugal and Iceland (2010), Denmark (2012), New Zealand, France, Luxembourg, Ireland , United States, England, Wales, Scotland and Finland.

Advances in this area have gradually transcended such as civil union which has recently been approved in Italy, one of the few nations that had no legislation on civil unions, gay or straight.

The group has also claimed LGBTI regulatory changes in the registration name for transgender people and has made the inclusion of items in some statutes of autonomy on non-discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
