Tourism formative decentralization leads to Caravaca de la Cruz to improve the professionalization of the sector in the Northwest (22/04/2016)

The new training initiative, included in the 'Alejob-Tourism' Plan, will provide training to enable almost a hundred students in the area

The Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment today introduced a new course plan to improve the training and professionalism of the tourism sector in Caravaca de la Cruz and the area of ​​the Northwest.

The initiative, which will benefit nearly one hundred students, aims to increase the competitiveness of the destination through most qualified professionals and contribute to consolidate its position as one of the great centers of attraction within the regional tourist map.

This was stated during his speech at a press conference the director of the Institute of Tourism, Manuel Fernández-Delgado, who was accompanied by the mayor of Caravaca, Jose Moreno, and the owner of the restaurant function room, Pedro Marin.

Fernandez-Delgado explained that this action is part of the 'Alejob-Tourism' Plan and the strategy of training decentralization launched by the Community will involve the completion in 2016 of 66 training courses in 12 municipalities in the region, the most representative touristically talking, and among which of course is Caravaca.

The first course to be taught in the town of Caravaca is the Certificate of Competence "Kitchen" Level II, which will have five training modules: "pre-processing and food preservation", "Health and safety and environmental protection in hospitality" "simple gastronomic offers and procurement systems", "culinary Techniques" and "culinary products".

The course will begin on Tuesday May 10 and will conclude on December 9, will last 810 hours, of which 730 hours are theoretical and 80 practices and professional practices nonwork complementary companies in the region.

The facilities that will host the courses will be the Assembly Rooms Pedro Marin, who have been previously approved by the Regional Employment Service and Training (SEF).

In addition to the Certificate of Competence, Caravaca host during the last quarter of the year different refresher courses for active workers in the hospitality industry, among which are 'Introduction to wine tasting', 'Technical Service and cutting ham 'and' Customer Hospitality '.

Fernandez-Delgado stressed the importance of having professionals with the highest qualification ahead of everything that will involve the celebration of the Holy Year of Caravaca 2017. In this regard, he recalled that the arrival of more than 2 million pilgrims are expected and that in order to respond to a phenomenon of this magnitude is necessary to be prepared and have a professional staff of excellence, not only in hotels but also in shops and on all parcels directly and indirectly involved with the tourism sector.

Better training, more employment and more stable

Also, the general director of the Institute of Tourism stressed that more and better training, increase options to choose better quality jobs.

Hence the importance of 'Tourism Alejob' Plan, "by which is to ensure an open and consensual training, professional able to strengthen the fabric of our main tourist resorts, as well as respond to increasing employment in the sector."

In this sense, with 55,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region, tourism employment today represents 11.2 percent of total regional employment, which shows the ability of this sector as a lever for growth and economic and employment development , he said.

In the first three months of 2016 the average tourist membership in the Region of Murcia, with 35,268 workers, grew 4.4 percent from the same period last year.

Thus, the tourism employment has now reached 35 consecutive months of sustained growth in the region.

Fernandez-Delgado explained that this means that tourism is not only getting create jobs, but is doing off-season thanks to seasonal adjustment and diversification beyond the classic sun and sand.
