Caravaca gets a relic of the Pope who granted the Jubilee in Perpetuity, San Juan Pablo II (23/02/2016)

In 1998, Pope John Paul II granted to Caravaca de la Cruz the privilege of being one of the five holy cities where a jubilee is celebrated in perpetuity, next to Jerusalem, Rome, Santiago de Compostela and Santo Toribio de Liebana.

Since that time the Pope was linked in a special way the people that guards and reveres the Lignum Crucis from the cross on which Christ died.

Eighteen years later, the city of Vera Cruz received a relic of blood of St. John Paul II, issued by the Diocese of Krakow to the parish of El Salvador.

On Monday afternoon, the Bishop of Cartagena, Mons. José Manuel Lorca Planes, presided over the celebration of the Eucharist in the Basilica-Sanctuary of Vera Cruz, in the day when the Church celebrates the Chair of St. Peter , a ceremony that dates back to the fourth century and which pays tribute and the primacy of Peter and his successors held.

Mons. Lorca praised the figure of John Paul II as "one who broke all protocols and approached in a special way to the young."

After the celebration of the Eucharist a procession was held with the relic to the parish of El Salvador, where they gave worship to all present and deposited in a niche in the choir (to enter the temple on the left).

In celebration and procession were, along with more than 300 caravaqueños, the mayor, José Moreno;

the Minister of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment, Juan Hernandez;

and the older sister of the Brotherhood of Vera Cruz.

Also present was the author of the portrait of John Paul II that have placed the niche containing the relic, the painter José Antonio Torregrosa, 'Torregar', a native of Ceuta.

Among the faithful representation of the parish of St. Thomas More in Obertshausen he was, with his pastor.

The fruits of a partnership

The Royal and Illustrious Brotherhood of the Blessed and Vera Cruz and the parish of El Salvador in Caravaca twinned with Catholic churches of St. Thomas More and Sacred Heart of Jesus of Obertshausen on 9 December 2012. The formalization of this partnership ran by the then Brother of the Brotherhood, Pedro Martinez Pozo, and German pastors, Norbert Hofmann and Hans König.

Norbert Hofmann visited Caravaca during the holidays 2012 and the welcome return made two years ago with a group of 46 pilgrims.

Two days after returning to Obertshausen he received the news that he was granted a relic of blood of St. John Paul II by the Diocese of Krakow for his parish.

"As for twinning are closer and more united as brothers, I came to ask a relic of the blood to Caravaca," explains German priest.

It was necessary for the grant signing pastor of El Salvador.

On this occasion Jesus Aguilar sent a letter to Cardinal Mons. Dzimisz Krakow by priests Diego Martínez, rector of the Diocesan Missionary Seminary Redemptoris Mater, and Pawel Bogdan, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi in Caravaca.

The German priest has created, with the help of his parishioners, a foundation for young people to travel to Obertshausen caravaqueños for training or work.

The foundation took the name of John of the Cross, by linking the Carmelite friar Caravaca, and began to work with the collection on July 28, 2014 to celebrate the arrival of the relic of blood to the parish of St. Thomas More.

"In Obertshausen, which has become pilgrimage town, we already have four training places for young people Caravaca de la Cruz".
