For its design and execution, there will be personnel from the Specialized Center for Agricultural and Livestock Professional Training (CIFEA) of Lorca, dependent on the Department of Agriculture and Water of the Autonomous Community of the Murcia Region, which has assumed the coordination of the training, together with the Segureño National Sheep Association based at the School of Shepherds.

And as specific objectives to promote and coordinate training actions, encourage the diversification of the activity, encourage the incorporation of young people and women, enhancement of pastoralism and the figure of the shepherd, differentiation of quality products, obtaining technical-economic social and environmental data from livestock farms, transfer and dissemination of results.

"All this work would not be possible without the coordination, interest and joint work between the regional government and the Caravaca de la Cruz City Council, committed to maintaining the infrastructure and promoting the objectives of the same, as well as the National Association of Segureño Sheep Breeders, with which we have been working for years to develop these training courses ", highlighted the counselor responsible for the area in the regional Executive.

The facilities of the School of Shepherds have been equipped since 2015 and were carried out with a financing of 160,000 euros from the agricultural funds of rural development EAFRD.

The building has an administrative part, which is also the headquarters of the association that groups together the Segureño sheep breeders in the Region, where the different aids are managed, and with a training room.

The Segureño lamb Sheep farming is of great importance at a socio-economic level in the Northwest Region, since it has a large census of sheep raised with a traditional production system rooted in rural areas, integrated into nature.

The Segureño lamb has been included since 2011 within the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).

It is bred in certain areas of Murcia, as is the case in the municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz, and other points in the provinces of Albacete, Almer a, Granada and Ja n.

It is a breed characterized by its high rusticity and high productive levels, which has allowed it to maintain significant levels of purity in the difficult environment in which it develops, to which other Spanish or foreign introduced breeds have not adapted.
