Caravaca launches the project to incorporate the municipality into the Network of Smart Tourist Destinations with a working meeting of the councils and those responsible for municipal areas (08/10/2020)

The meeting had the advice of the responsible technician in Innovation of the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia, Belén Hidalgo. Currently the International Network of Smart Tourist Destinations has 179 members, of which 119 are destinations throughout Spain.

The municipalities that adhere win in innovation, accessibility, projection and quality. After its approval in the last Plenary session at the proposal of the Department of Tourism, the consulting and self-diagnosis phase has been launched, which will reflect the situation from which it starts, the projects that are underway, as well as future initiatives of the Government team.

All those involved in the project will carry out an analysis on five major blocks: accessibility, sustainability, governance, technology and innovation. Based on this, the state company Seggitur -which promotes Smart Tourist Destinations- will carry out a prior evaluation and the results will be the action plan to follow for the coming years. "It is about working as a team, efficiently using all our resources and taking a step forward in quality, innovation and safety, with the primary purpose of supporting a key economic sector such as tourism at a critical moment due to the crisis in that we face ", said the Councilor for Tourism, José Carlos Gómez, who also referred to the" necessary coordinated work between local, regional and national administrations to renew and invest in various tools that revalue the destination.

" The initial proposal presented by the Seggitur society, at the request of the Caravacan City Council and the Murcia Region Tourism Council, is structured around key elements such as promoting the differential values ??of Caravaca de la Cruz compared to other competing destinations and improve its position in the national and international tourism sphere, through the application of information and communication technologies and other tools. Adherence, at this time of strong impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, represents the commitment of the Caravaca de la Cruz City Council to renew and invest in different alternatives that make it possible to know the updated offer of the sector, favor the management of reserves and purchase, ensure safe mobility and warn the local population and future visitors of the new sanitary measures. The implementation of the Smart Tourist Destination (DTI) management model in the municipality involves a comprehensive strategy, which is supervised by the Segittur state company, dependent on the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. The Department of Tourism of the Autonomous Community will also assist in the implementation of the model, supporting consultancy and self-diagnosis tasks, as well as the launch of a training program for managers of the destination that will include specific conferences on sustainability, accessibility, technology, tourism intelligence and innovation and that will also have the contribution of universities and private companies. SEGITTUR contributes to the development, modernization and maintenance of the tourism industry.

It generates and manages the technology, knowledge and innovation necessary to improve the competitiveness, quality and sustainability of tourism.
