The Camino de la Cruz de Caravaca Foundation has allocated 46,000 euros to provide special state-of-the-art showcases to this series of six works that are exhibited in the Sacred Art Museum of the Basilica-Sanctuary of the Vera Cruz. The showcases, made in Germany, have a sustainable system based on silica that does not consume electrical energy and that places this equipment at the level of the best museums in Europe. The Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports, Cristina Sánchez, accompanied by the mayor of the municipality, José Francisco García, and the older sister of the Cofradía de la Santísima y Vera Cruz, Maria Carmen López, presided over the presentation of the new showcases , designed to ensure optimal thermal, humidity, security and lighting conditions for the conservation of the boards that narrate 'The Miracle of Vera Cruz de Caravaca'. Cristina Sánchez explained that the inauguration of these showcases is "a historic milestone for heritage in the Region of Murcia, guaranteeing the future of one of its great cultural symbols and allowing the viewer to enjoy these works of art in the best conditions lighting and visibility ". "The rich historical and cultural heritage of Caravaca de Cruz provides tourist wealth to the Region of Murcia, its legacy must be exposed under the safest and most innovative systems, because ensuring its preservation is investing in the future of regional tourism and of this city", indicated the counselor. The mayor of Caravaca stated that "we are fortunate to have in Caravaca one of the best and oldest painting groups in the Region of Murcia, and that it is closely linked to the history and culture of our city because it tells the legend of the Appearance of the Holy Cross, so it remains in the place for which it was created five centuries later. José Francisco García recalled that "in recent years the significance of these paintings in regional art has been valued with their participation in exhibitions such as 'Huellas', 'La ciudad en al Alto' and especially 'Signum', in the Year Jubilar 2017, an occasion for which the six tables were restored by the curator of cultural assets Manuel Sánchez thanks to the financing of the Fundación del Banco Santander, which must be thanked for its commitment to Caravaca and the love it put into that work of patronage that was extraordinary news for the local and regional artistic heritage ". The local councilor thanked the Camino de la Cruz Foundation for completing this process and allowing the six paintings to have a correct conservation in the future with these cabinets.
