The Autonomous Community begins the process for the expansion and reform of the Caravaca Health Center (07/08/2020)

| With an investment of almost 6 million euros | The Governing Council of the Region of Murcia has authorized the execution of the works, which will expand consultations and spaces to face future increases in services and staff The works, once the bidding process is finished, will have an execution period of 18 months The mayor of Caravaca, José Francisco García, recalled that the health center "is the oldest in the Region, being the first to be built in 1988, so its updating, expansion and remodeling is an imperative need to offer better service to the neighbors " The Governing Council of the Region of Murcia has also approved the allocation of 944,308 euros to the execution of the works for the installation of an electrical energy production plant using photovoltaic panels in the Northwest Regional Hospital The process to carry out the expansion and reform of the Caravaca de la Cruz Health Center has begun with authorization from the Governing Council of the Region of Murcia, at the proposal of the Ministry of Health.

The works will be carried out with a budget of 5,748,302 euros, and an initial execution period of 18 months, once the works are tendered. The current building dates from 1988 and was designed to serve, at that time, a population of 16,000 inhabitants.

In addition, the Caravaca Primary Care Emergency Service (SUAP) was located in the same building. The mayor of Caravaca, José Francisco García, recalled that the health center "is the oldest in the current network of health centers in the Region of Murcia, being the first to be built in the 1980s, for what its updating, expansion and remodeling is an urgent need to offer the best service to all the residents of the municipality ". García has highlighted the significant investment in this action and the commitment of the regional government to improve basic infrastructure for the provision of quality public health.

"Investment in healthcare is always welcome, but especially in these times we are going through with the COVID-19 pandemic, when we have seen the decisive role played by healthcare professionals and the facilities in which they carry out their patient care work" , the mayor stressed. Currently, the Caravaca de la Cruz Health Center acts as the head of the Basic Health Zone and includes the entire urban area of ??Caravaca, a municipality with 26,240 inhabitants, of which 21,097 correspond to the urban nucleus. The current building presents a lack of space, with an insufficient number of consultations and an inappropriate distribution, in addition to other construction and design deficiencies, which makes it necessary to remodel it to face future increases in services and staff. The project, framed in the Action Program for the Promotion and Improvement of Primary Care in the Region (PAIMAP), aims to ensure the continuous and effective provision of health care in the population of the Northwest Health Area IV assigned to this clinic. Installation of photovoltaic panels in the Hospital Comarcal del Noroeste Likewise, the Government of the Region of Murcia has authorized to allocate 944,308 euros to the execution of the works for the installation of two plants for the production of electricity using photovoltaic panels in the Reina Sofía and Comarcal del Noroeste hospitals, with an initial execution period five months. These actions are part of the 2019-2024 Energy Efficiency Plan of the Ministry of Health, which includes actions to promote the reduction of energy consumption from non-renewable sources, and its purpose is to ensure the continuous and effective provision of health and surgical assistance in both hospitals. The works are intended to take advantage of the generation of electrical energy by installing photovoltaic solar collectors to be positioned on roofs, through the hours of insolation, which in this Region is very high, and thus generate electrical energy.

This generated energy will be consumed in the producing hospitals themselves, in self-consumption mode, which will necessarily result in economic savings by reducing the amount of electricity billing, both in terms of energy and power. "The reduction of energy consumption and the use of energy from renewable sources are important measures to reduce the energy dependency required by the European Union and greenhouse gas emissions, especially given the ambitious climate and energy targets set for the year 2030, as well as the global commitment contracted in the context of the Paris Agreement ", explained José Francisco García.
