The City of Caravaca advances the first economic measures to help neighbors and companies in the face of the coronavirus crisis (18/03/2020)

The Councilor for Finance has declared that, although at the moment the priority is the containment of the virus and public health, local, regional and national administrations must activate policies as soon as possible to curb the serious effects that it will have on the economy.

The measures of the City Council contemplate the paralysis of all municipal tax payments so that the business and commercial fabric, practically paralyzed, does not have to face payments of certain taxes

Also, the Department of Finance will make discounts in taxes, fees and public prices to companies and people affected by this situation

The first deputy mayor and councilor for Economic Planning and Finance, José Carlos Gómez, has advanced a package of first measures in economic matters with which the Caravaqueño City Council is going to support the residents, the self-employed and businessmen directly affected by the paralysis derived from the coronavirus crisis.

It has also pledged to bring those affected in Caravaca closer to the extraordinary aid that they are already announcing from the regional and central governments.

Gómez has expressed that "from the local government team we are aware that at the moment the priority is to ensure public health and strictly comply with preventive measures to minimize the spread of the virus, but at the same time you have to anticipate. Although the councils have limited room for maneuver, resources must be concentrated on activating policies that help alleviate the negative effects that this crisis is going to cause in the local economy. "

"Many companies and small businesses have been forced to close their doors and the self-employed and workers are facing a situation full of uncertainty that we do not know for how long it will take," he added.

José Carlos Gómez has expressed that "we are in contact with different associations of businessmen, affected groups and businessmen, and they all convey their concern and concern for the economic uncertainty that this situation generates."

"Our primary objective, in the face of the crisis and the urgency of the situation," added the councilor of the Treasury, "is to offer the business community of the municipality all the tools within our reach and bring them, at the same time, those already announced from the regional and central administrations, so that companies find all the support they need and their activity is as little impaired as possible, despite travel restrictions or the difficulty of accessing certain markets. "

The objective, he added, must be that, once this situation of Alarm State passes, all people who have been affected by an ERTE, return to their job and can carry out their activity normally.

Likewise, it is important that the self-employed are not forced to pay taxes and expenses when they cannot carry out their activity.

The councilor has trusted that there is a coordination between administrations in which the general interest prevails and helps all the families and companies affected by this situation to return to normality as quickly as possible and that the economic recession that is already announced is the lightest possible.

The first measures announced by the Councilor for Finance that will be taken to help those affected by the coronavirus crisis are:

-Approval of discounts of rates and public prices for all those companies and people who are affected by this situation.

-Approval of discounts for the payment of the IAE tax of the companies that are affected by this situation.

-Extension of the term for the payment of the Tax on Mechanical Traction Vehicles, IVTM, better known as 'car stamp', whose period ends on May 20.

The extension of the term will be determined in the near future.

-Review of all municipal tax payments so that the business and commercial fabric, practically paralyzed, does not have to face payments of certain taxes.

MUNICIPAL BUDGET

The Councilor for Finance has referred to the draft of the municipal budget, which was scheduled to be approved during this month of March, but which will be approved as soon as the situation returns to normal.

"In the municipal budget for this year, a surplus of around € 400,000 is contemplated, which we are going to study the possibility of allocating it to the conservation of local companies and businesses that are affected by this crisis, as well as for the adoption of how many social measures are necessary ", has indicated the councilman of Property.

APPROACH THE SUPPORT MEASURES OF ALL ADMINITRATIONS TO LOCAL COMPANIES

Likewise, José Carlos Gómez has remarked that the City Council will approach the information on the aid announced by the Institute of Development of the Region of Murcia, with actions valued at around 10 million euros to lessen the impact of the coronavirus crisis in the regional business fabric, as well as the extraordinary measures approved by the Council of Ministers through Royal Decree-Law in order to protect and support families, workers, the self-employed and companies.

The Instituto de Fomento de la Región de Murcia has set up the toll-free telephone line 900 700 706 and the email information@info.carm.es, to inform and advise entrepreneurs in the Region.
