The Department of Youth of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz has launched a new edition of the program 'Healthy trip' for the prevention of addictions among the adolescent population.

A total of 55 high school students are part of this academic year of the initiative, whose name responds to the way to motivate and reward young people who reach the final phase.

This municipal program, which is celebrating its thirteenth edition with more than 700 participants, has a special impact on the fight against smoking.

During its five-month duration, young people assume the commitment to participate in talks and workshops, where knowledge and tools for the prevention of drug use are provided, revealing false myths.

Likewise, the participants agree to quit tobacco or not to start using it, undergoing periodic medical checks.

Those who reach the final phase, attending all the informative activities and without having started smoking during the five months, participate in a meeting in a youth hostel and, in addition, they are part of a raffle from which the participants are chosen in a European meeting.

This year, the Department of Youth has introduced new features in the program, such as the participation of Proyecto Hombre, an entity that will provide tools for the prevention of addictions.

The program also has, for many editions, with the collaboration of the doctor of the Northwest Regional Hospital Sandro Guachi, who, together with the technicians of the Department of Youth, is responsible for carrying out the activities.

In addition to the 'Healthy Trip' program, the Department of Youth promotes another series of actions in the field of addiction and drug dependence prevention, such as the workshops that 'Proyecto Hombre' is teaching in all institutes about the risks of gambling and abuse of video games or new technologies.

Within its training program, it also addresses other subjects such as the prevention of alcohol consumption or the responsible use of social networks.
