The City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz promotes measures for the protection and revitalization of the historic center (27/02/2020)

Another measure is the Rehabilitation Plan of the Historic District, endowed with more than one and a half million euros of the ARRUR program, destined to the reform of roofs and facades, among other elements

In addition, work is being done on the project to create homes, a car park and a public square in the 'Europan' block

The mayor said that "the objective of the measures implemented since the beginning of the legislature and which will continue to be adopted is to look back to a privileged place such as the historic center and that the neighbors have the necessary comforts to live in it"

The City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz, through the departments of Urban Planning and Historical Heritage, has been promoting different measures to ensure the conservation and revitalization of the historic center of the city.

Among them, the writing of reports on properties of special interest and the sending of execution orders to their owners to act in compliance with current legislation.

Parallel to these requirements, the Special Rehabilitation Plan of the Old Town has been launched, with more than one million and a half euros for the arrangement of facades and roofs, among other elements, within the program "Regeneration aid urban and rural 2019. ARRU ", which Caravaca de la Cruz has achieved for the first time.

"We are also putting all our efforts to carry out strategic projects such as the one that affects the Europán block, where we want to create a public square, parking and housing for young people. The goal is to look at the old town and for people to have the necessary comforts to live in this historic and privileged environment, "said the mayor, José Francisco García, during the press conference offered with the Town Councilor, Mónica Sánchez, to take stock of the actions in this area, after the partial collapse and demolition of private property located on Canalica street.

The mayor also said that the aforementioned procedures, which involve a series of administrative procedures and deadlines stipulated in the law, were activated at the beginning of the legislature, "since the problem of housing in poor condition and with special protection and interest not it had been addressed like this to date. "

In this regard, it should be remembered that, as established in the Law on Urban Land and Rehabilitation, the right to property includes the obligation to keep them in legal conditions of safety, health, accessibility and public ornamentation.

Among the execution orders sent by the City Council, the one sent to the owners of the former convent of San José stands out.

"In October 2019, the municipal technicians prepared an exhaustive report of the state of the convent and this month an execution order has been notified to the property, where urgent actions to be carried out for the rehabilitation and conservation of 657,000 euros are communicated ".

The same process has been followed with other private properties such as the Casa de la Encomienda or the Casa San Juan de la Cruz;

In the latter case, the owners have already carried out the rehabilitation project after the meetings held.

In addition, another series of specific measures are carried out in public spaces of the historic center, such as the replacement of the base of the monument of the Plaza del Hoyo, "which has not collapsed as it has been said, but is being replaced due to the poor state it presented, with security problems, "according to the head of Urban Planning and Public Services at the Consistory of Caracas.
