Caravaca will have a new fire station, which will cover the Northwest and aims to be a reference in the fight against forest fires (25/02/2020)

The two new plurifunctional nurse vehicles that will be assigned to Caravaca de la Cruz y Cieza have been presented at the firefighters' installations.

The mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, José Francisco García, and the Minister of Transparency, Participation and Public Administration in the Government of the Region of Murcia, Beatriz Ballesteros, have held a work meeting, together with members of the local government team, to address different issues of interest, including the project of the future fire station that will provide coverage to the municipalities of the Northwest Region.

"The need for a new park that is equipped with a modern infrastructure and with a better communicated location is evident, so that response times to neighboring municipalities are shortened, since the current one has been small and within the northern part of the urban center ", as stated by the mayor, who stressed that the park aspires to be a" benchmark in the fight against forest fires, in the heart of the Region of Murcia. "

During the meeting the requirements that the location of the park must have been put on the table and it has been agreed to evaluate different options that allow the construction of the new facilities, under the Consortium of Fire and Rescue of the Region of Murcia (CEIS).

The Minister Ballesteros said that "the infrastructure will be equipped with the latest technologies, with special attention to the prevention and fight against forest fires, given its location a few kilometers away from the largest area of forest mass in the Region of Murcia and with radius of influence that will reach the municipalities of Caravaca de la Cruz, Moratalla, Calasparra, Cehegín or Bullas ".

The objective is to improve the location of the facilities, so that the response time is reduced and, therefore, a more agile and efficient reaction can be carried out to all the consortium municipalities that cover a total of 2,374 square kilometers.

The current park dates from 1982 and was ceded to the CEIS by the Caravaca City Council in 1990. It is located in the northern part of the municipality, so emergency vehicles must cross the urban area every time they have to travel to other locations from the area

Currently the Caravaca fire station covers five percent of the total annual interventions of the Consortium firefighters.

It has 20 firefighters, five ropes and a sergeant and has two urban pumper vehicles, an urban nurse, a heavy rural pumper and a 21-meter-tall vehicle.

New multifunctional nurse vehicles

To these means is now added a forestry nurse vehicle, which also serves as a snowplow if necessary.

This is one of the two acquisitions, of similar characteristics, of the Consortium of Firefighting and Rescue of the Region of Murcia and that will serve in the fire stations of Caravaca de la Cruz and Cieza.

These trucks of two axles have a capacity of load of water of 6,500 liters and have the option of incorporating a snowplow to work in the region of the Northwest, as it happened only a few weeks ago during the stormy 'Gloria'.

The investment of both exceeds 575.00 euros and its management requires specific training courses, which are included in the comprehensive training plan of the CEIS.
