The City Council of Caravaca supports the demonstration in defense of the Field convened with the motto ´Without farmers and ranchers, what do we eat tomorrow? ´ (19/02/2020)

The call responds to the need to demand urgent support measures for a key sector of the economy, which guarantees the survival of the rural and natural environment

The City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz supports the demonstration in defense of the Field convened with the motto 'Without farmers and ranchers, what do we eat tomorrow?', Which will take place this Friday, February 21, at 11.00, in the city of Murcia, having as its exit the Palace of San Esteban and as destination the headquarters of the Government Delegation.

Therefore, through the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Pedanías a call has been made to the participation of the neighbors, who can make use of the free buses that will leave from the municipality, enrolling in Caravaca Fruits (968 70 88 76) or COAG (968 70 01 61).

Councilor José Antonio García has defended that from the Caravaca City Council - a municipality with an important weight of the population and the rural economy - the demonstration-promoting agrarian organizations are seamlessly supported, "since they just demand support measures for mitigate the serious damage suffered by farmers and ranchers. "

A situation, he added, "which has been accentuated with increasingly lower prices at origin, with production costs skyrocketed; with a 9% decrease in agricultural income, and difficulties in exporting with American tariffs, the Brexit, the Russian veto or the dreaded cut in community aid. This context is so serious that it requires urgent and coordinated action by the administrations and the agri-food chain as a whole, to reverse the situation. "

At a time when there is so much talk about the climate challenge, the 'Spain emptied' and the necessary structuring of the rural environment, it is necessary, more than ever, to take into account the agricultural sector, because without it it will not be possible to undertake the challenges that society demands.

From ASAJA, COAG-IR and UPA, it is intended that the competent administrations become aware of the seriousness of the problem and implement true policies to support a strategic sector of the economy, which also contributes essentially to the maintenance of the rural environment and of natural space.

Among the demands that are claimed in this protest is to end the abuse in the distribution;

prevent unfair competition from third countries;

have sufficient irrigation water at a reasonable price and the implementation of a Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) with a budget in line with the needs of the sector.
