The mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, José Francisco García, and the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment, Antonio Luengo, together with the councilors responsible for the areas of Agriculture and Environment, José Antonio García and Ana Belén Martínez, celebrated a working day to analyze measures to support the rural environment, which fight their depopulation and favor their sustainable development.
Within this day, a meeting was also held with representatives of agricultural organizations of the municipality, who put on the table problems, proposals and demands of the sector.
Several measures and lines of action were proposed from the City Council of Caravaca, such as the creation of a work table to support traditional crops, where new plantations adapted to the characteristics of this geographical area and generating new opportunities for agriculture are also promoted. , a sector that, according to the mayor, "needs the urgent support of all administrations, each one within its powers, to face a very adverse situation, with negative consequences for the field and therefore, for all."
The head of Agriculture in the Regional Government advanced some measures and projects already underway, such as the creation in Caravaca de la Cruz of the regional headquarters of the "forest reference center, in which innovation or empowerment projects in rural areas will be developed by promoting the environment. "
The Consistorio caravaqueño also put other demands and lines of work on the table, such as accelerating and strengthening aid lines for the improvement of rural roads, for the maintenance of traditional crops and for the modernization and energy saving of communities of irrigators, among others.
In addition, he also requested to increase support for the 'School of Pastors' and the Segvino Ovino Fair, both based in Archivel.
Finally, the counselor, accompanied by the representatives of the Government team, visited some of the crops of the agricultural company 'La Ponderosa', dedicated to the handling of fruits, vegetables and livestock, which during the last year has received aid for the development of its activity in the concept of 'Basic Payment' and 'Green Payment' of the Common Agricultural Policy.
