Ferrolano David Rey and caravaqueña Rafaela Sánchez, awarded with nine students at the 'Albacara' Awards (16/12/2019)

The awards ceremony took place in the Plenary Hall, coinciding with the festival of San Juan de la Cruz, a key figure in universal mysticism, linked to the event and the history of the city of the Cross

David Rey Fernández (El Ferrol. La Coruña) and Rafaela Sánchez Torres (Caravaca de la Cruz. Murcia), along with nine Primary and Secondary students, were the winners in the latest edition of the 'Albacara' Awards, literary event convened by the Consistory caravaqueño, through its Department of Culture.

The contest 'Albacara' has been composed of the 38th edition of the 'Mandarines School Children and Youth Prize', the II 'Ciudad de la Cruz Narrative Prize' and the II 'San Juan de la Cruz Mystic Poetry Prize'.

These awards were born under the protection of the Carmelite Fathers forty years ago and therefore, their awards ceremony coincides with the festival of San Juan de la Cruz, patron of the Spanish poets, with whom Caravaca de la Cruz has a strong historical bond .

"The Carmelite friar is, without a doubt, the most universal of the characters that have had a relationship with our city throughout history. To speak of San Juan de la Cruz and Carmel Barefoot is to refer to one of the chapters that most they have contributed to forge the identity of this land. A flame that the Barefoot Carmelite fathers keep alive after many historical avatars, "as the mayor, José Francisco García, pointed out during his speech delivery ceremony, held at the Salon de Plenary with the presence of winners and jury components, as well as representatives of the three close collaborators with whom he has the Literary Contest 'Albacara': the Barefoot Carmelites, the Queen Group and the Gollarín publishing house.

The poems entitled 'The burning contours of the earth', by David Rey Fernández, was selected as the winner of the II International Prize for Mystic Poetry 'San Juan de la Cruz', endowed with 3,500 euros.
