The City Council of Caravaca reinforces the services of the Police and establishes a security and traffic device for the XVI Medieval Market (04/12/2019)

The market route will be equipped with automatic defibrillators, fire extinguishers, blocks for pedestrian areas and evacuation signaling

The Councilor for Citizen Security and Traffic, José Santiago Villa, has met with heads of security, municipal services and artisans

The Department of Citizen Security and Traffic of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, directed by José Santiago Villa, has held a meeting with representatives of the Security Forces, municipal services and artisans to finalize the device that will intervene in the development of the XVI Medieval Market, celebrated on December 6, 7 and 8, coinciding with the celebration of the Constitution Bridge.

"This year we will strengthen the Local Police with surveillance services on foot through the interior of the market, adding to the work that had been carried out in previous editions of traffic control in the accesses to the town center," said José Santiago Villa.

The Civil Guard, Firefighters, Civil Protection, Red Cross and private security will also be part of the operation.

A highlight are the deterrent parking areas, which will be located at the old railway station, at the fairgrounds (next to the Francisco Fernández Torralba sports complex), on the esplanade next to Salones Castillo de la Cruz and on the way to Mayrena.

Other points addressed in relation to security and the good development of the Medieval Market are the installation of fire extinguishers along the route, in addition to several automatic defibrillators and blocks to prevent vehicle access to the pedestrian zone of the event.

"Likewise, evacuation routes have been planned and signaling is reinforced on the highway itself and at the accesses," Villa said.

The one in Caravaca de la Cruz is one of the largest and most consolidated medieval markets in Spain, which every year attracts thousands of visitors to the main city of the Northwest.

Located in the historic center, the Gran Vía is the starting point, with a tour that culminates in the Plaza San Juan de la Cruz.

The opening hours will be from 11 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 10 pm, except for the taverns and gastronomic points that will have a continuous schedule.

The visitor will find more than 200 artisans from different points of the Spanish geography, of the most varied specialties, which, in addition to the traditional points of sale, will carry out demonstration workshops on works such as esparto, plant distillation, stonework, sculpture, coinage of coins, etc.

Entertainment shows and activities will also be reinforced this year so that all adults and children traveling through the market have guaranteed fun.

For this, there will be musical and theatrical shows traveling the three days of the market, which will start with the grand opening parade this Friday, December 6, at 12 noon, from Plaza Paco Pim to Plaza del Arco.
