There has been a controversy in the Murcian municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz around its heraldic shield, after its registration approved in the last plenary session of the City Council.
For some it implies the modification of the image that had been used for a long period, while the local government team denies that there is a modification of the shield and denounces the biased use of an internal report.
'Heraldry Popular' as a space dedicated to the dissemination of heraldry, wants to state:
1. Discussions around municipal shields are sometimes unpleasant, but they show the vitality of heraldry, while they highlight the importance that citizens give to the symbols that represent them and that are part of their identity.
2. For these discussions to take place in an appropriate manner, it is essential that the registration, modification or creation of municipal shields be carried out through the opening of public and transparent processes where all citizens have access to all reports on the issue, and you have a precise knowledge of the procedure to be used.
This is the only way that experts and interested citizens can give their justified opinion and thus help the municipal shield to be felt as their own by the community.
3. The government team's own statement shows that it has made the official approval of the Caravaca de la Cruz shield using dark and not transparent methods.
In this way, it has prevented a process that could have been enriching for the dissemination of heraldry and for the entire citizenship of Caravaca de la Cruz.
