The Community provides better access to the walled enclosure of the Real Alcázar Santuario de Caravaca de la Cruz (30/01/2010)

The Ministry of Public Works and Planning, through the Directorate General of Land and Housing, has carried out works to improve accessibility to the walled enclosure of the Real Alcázar Santuario de la Vera Cruz Caravaca, including access to the basilica itself.

As indicated by the Director General of Planning and Housing, Antonio Navarro, "this action is included within the aid offered by the Ministry to implement rehabilitation projects and adaptation of spaces of architectural interest in the municipalities."

The works, which have a funding of 155,609 euros, are part of the aid program of the Ministry for the removal of architectural and urban barriers, designed to ensure accessibility to buildings and public spaces.

"This action has been executed on one of the greatest monuments of projection inside and outside the country, even with the Jubilee Year, and has been declared a cultural monument to character," added Navarro.

Within this project we have eliminated the disparities in access to the basilica.

It has also placed a non-slip flooring and frost, plus a tour of the plaza level suitable for people with reduced mobility.

Set of Real Alcázar

The Real Alcazar walled houses inside the sanctuary of Vera Cruz, declared a Historic-Artistic national in 1944 and Cultural Interest in 1985.

Pope John Paul II granted in 1998 the Jubilee, in perpetuity, and every seven years, the Shrine of the True Cross of Caravaca.
