Traditional music will sound five Spanish provinces in the XXXII edition of the Festival of the crews (18/01/2010)

The mayor of Caravaca, Domingo Aranda, the director general of Cultural Promotion, Antonio Martinez, and Secretary of Aguilanderos Barranda, Juan Fernandez, presented today the thirty-second edition of the Festival of Barranda crews, held in this hamlet of Caravaca de la Cruz on Sunday 31 January.

This event is a "pioneer party regarded as an indisputable leader in the field of oral tradition of music in our country," said Martinez, who also highlighted the efforts made by the Regional Ministry for the maintenance and enhancement of these meetings, and other expressions such as Aurora or the Animeros.

From City of Caravaca is working on the record to allow this party to get the declaration of National Tourist Interest.

To this end, the Department of Tourism has invested in the last three years 60,000 euros in promoting the party in the national media.

"The Feast of the crews is the cultural expression of our roots, which this year celebrates its thirtieth edition has already become a reference in the traditional music of Spain, stressed Sunday Aranda.

Since 1979, coinciding with the Feast of the Candelaria, patron saint of Barranda, the last Sunday of January occurs Party Crews, a day that brings together pandas, rounds and music bands of the southeastern Spanish oral tradition.

The Fiesta was declared of Regional Tourist Interest in 1999, and is working on its promotion for the declaration of national tourist interest.

"It has become one of the oldest cultural events of its kind and most important of all those made in Spain", as said Martinez.

On Sunday 31 January the festival takes place the crews this year with the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha as a guest at the party will bring together 14 teams from five provinces (Albacete, Malaga, Valencia, Teruel, Almería) and the region.

This event is complemented by other activities such as study days on the Culture of Oral Tradition, which aim to provide theoretical support to the parties through lectures, educational workshops in schools, exhibitions and lectures, which this year has traditional literature as axis.
