People at risk of social exclusion receive training in shoe repair (27/03/2009)

The director general of the IMAS Inclusion Programs, John Brown, and Councilwoman Social Promotion of the City of Caravaca, Carmen Ruiz, today closed the shoe repair workshop organized to promote self-employment among groups at risk of social exclusion.

The workshop has been taught by Abraham Project, a foundation that already has other projects in the municipality as the store sign and service of waste collection and sorting of textiles.

The course has had a total of 10 beneficiaries arising from the Commonwealth of Northwest Human Services and the Department of Social Promotion.

This workshop has ensured that users learn the basic patterns of a profession that is being hampered by the lack of professionals who have mastered the subject, although the demand still exists.

In addition, part of the course is devoted to training social work habits.

The general director of IMAS has explained that this course receives a subsidy from the Ministry of Social Policy intended to scholarships received by students throughout the course.

"This workshop has been a resounding success because there are students who have applied for appropriate permits to start a professional activity related to the shoe repair," reported Brown.

For his part, Councillor for Social Welfare has assured that the City Council "are working every day to find solutions to the difficulties of integration of people excluded or at risk of social exclusion, widening avenues of support through grants and programs like this. "
