Municipal Socialist Group Motions presented to the next full City (05/03/2009)

Note from PSOE:

The Municipal Socialist Caravaca de la Cruz take to the full council, which will be held on 12th March, two motions on the one hand, with a theme of great relevance and importance to our region such as the continuity of the Tajo - Safe and on the other hand, the gradual replacement of plastic bags other fabric and / or biodegradable such as those of paper.

The motion of the Tajo - Segura seeks the commitment of all political forces represented in our City Council does not give an inch in the maintenance, no expiration, of this transfer.

No need to remember the importance to the economy of this infrastructure Murcia therefore should not be questioned nor be questioned by any political force is the ideology that is.

So with this motion seeks to unite wills against the threat that hangs over many jobs and an important part of the economy of our region is agriculture.

Similarly, and related to this issue, we must remember that from the socialist ranks have always defended this transfer.

Not only to consolidate but to increase it if possible.

Finally, another motion presented by the Socialist Group in relation to the phasing out of plastic bags, is aimed at saving energy and protecting the environment.

Energy savings because the plastic comes directly from oil.

The removal of such non-biodegradable bags is saving thousands of barrels of oil a year, to give just one example.

Caring for the environment is clear.

The huge number of plastic bags used in everyday purchases has a significant environmental cost.

It is manufactured using energy, non-renewables are spent on the planet and pollutes the environment.

Often, debris and plastic bags are almost a part of the landscape.

With this initiative, if carried out, our town would give a quantum leap in environmental policies and economic savings, in line with the objectives of the Integrated National Waste Plan, especially if we consider the times.

Among the points of agreement, we propose:

Distribute reusable bags (such as those of cloth) for groceries, and introduce the progressive use of biodegradable paper bag through agreements with retailers.

Create an annual award and publicize those shops or commercial premises to introduce biodegradable paper bag or reusable also, therefore, disposed of or encumber the use of plastic.

Also the bags will be assessed bearing the logo of the Holy Year, or any reference to the attractiveness of the locality.
