The mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, Domingo Aranda, and the president of the Murcia Association for Psychosocial Rehabilitation (ISOL), Luis Peregrín, have signed a collaboration agreement for the development program for 2015 social rehabilitation and pre-service training aimed at people with chronic mental illness and substance abuse problems.
"We are facing a program of public utility, which will not only benefit the users and their families but caravaqueña society at large by the numerous performances maintenance and restructuring carried out in buildings and public spaces," he said the mayor, who also recalled that this program began in 2008 and each year has strengthened the commitment to increase the number of users and monitors.
From the Murcia Association for Psychosocial Rehabilitation stand, according to statements made by the chairman, "that the City of Caravaca has pioneered this model of rehabilitation and employment, now other municipalities follow".
"Since its launch, 80 caravaqueños have real practical job training experience, which has been a major change in their lives and that of their families," said Luis Peregrín.
During this year's program, which is funded by the Murcia Health Service and the City of Caravaca de la Cruz with more than 70,000 euros, will have 25 users, led by three monitors and a psychologist.
The objective is to facilitate user socio-occupational skills that allow him to leave situations of isolation and self-esteem and personal autonomy.
To do therapies and classes of materials and new technologies are alternated with grantees maintenance, gardening, painting fontenaría and public spaces.
Last year users performed more than a hundred improvement actions, most of them in schools in the town and villages.
The program is implemented in coordination with the Center for Mental Health Northwest and Social Services City of Caravaca, who are responsible for referring patients suitable for this type of therapy.
