The City Council signed an agreement with Pro Animal Companions care for abandoned dogs (11/09/2012)

The City of Caravaca de la Cruz, through its Department of Health, has renewed its partnership agreement with the association Pro Animal Companions to collect, host and promote the adoption of stray animals in public.

The agreement provides for the collection of stray animals on the streets or seized their owners as a result of an administrative offense at the request of the local police.

The animals are treated at the facilities of the association, which must have covered their needs for food, health and hygiene.

Furthermore, the association is committed to promoting adoption through different actions and conduct social awareness efforts against animal abandonment.

During the past year the association has collected a total of 115 dogs in the town of Caravaca, of which 61 were puppies.

In all instances, 84 have been placed for adoption, primarily to residents of other European countries, and 31 remain in the shelter waiting for an adopter.

As he detailed the Councillor for Health, Maria Teresa Romero Milanes, the purpose of this agreement is to mitigate as far as possible, the inconvenience neighborhood and fouling problems caused by stray dogs and get some owners and better conditions of life to these animals.

"However, it is essential to have the cooperation and awareness of citizens to reduce the number of cases of neglect, due to receiving many calls and neighborhood complaints and address them all very complicated," he explained.

The head of the municipal area of ​​Health has stated that the Consistory has in place the Companion Animal Ordinance, which reconciles the right to have pets with the basic rules of coexistence.

This requirement is based on the animals are suitable conditions of life and the duty to control and prevent discomfort and dangers that they can cause to people and the environment.
