The bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, Jose Manuel Lorca Planes, proclaimed the beginning of Holy Week in Caravaca de la Cruz.
The event took place yesterday afternoon in the parish church of El Salvador, with the mayor, Domingo Aranda, the council of Celebration, Jose Francisco Garcia, the president of the Association of Guilds, Maria Carmen Lopez, and the brothers over the various fraternities, who want to recognize the involvement of Lorca Plans with a plaque of appreciation.
After reading the proclamation, the bishop proceeded to the blessing of Our Lady of Mercy, the new Marian image of the Brotherhood of St. John the Evangelist, made by the sculptor of Velez Malaga Israel Sanchez Cornejo.
The Holy Week processions are taken up tomorrow, Tuesday, with the Solemn Procession of the Agony in the Garden in "Step Morao" by the traditional route of the historic old city.
