Caravaca City Council has considered a very positive record in the Official Gazette of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) "Lamb Segureño" by the Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs.
In the words of the mayor, Domingo Aranda, IGP identification mark "means the survival and quality assurance for beef and sheep segureño, while strengthening employment source very close to our land."
Aranda wanted to congratulate all the farmers in the area and encouraged them to further develop production standards to ensure the prestige of the IGP.
With the publication in the Official Gazette of the Protected Geographical Indication to the Lamb Segureño are rewarded the efforts of breeders in the area, backed by the city of Caravaca and the Autonomous Region, are promoting this race in the contest, auction Archivel through the purchase and sale of copies, the morphological contest, conferences and roundtables.
The PGI recognizes the quality and environmental contribution to production systems based on sustainable and environmentally friendly natural.
The area of sheep breed "segureña" includes 144 municipalities in the provinces of Albacete, Almeria, Granada, Jaen and Murcia.
Segureño sheep is considered an "ecotype" set from the trunk "entrefino Spanish", which provides a pinkish meat with a tender texture, due to the peculiar fatty infiltration in the muscle of this race.
To carry the identifying mark of the IGP, the lambs can only come from holdings registered in the official register for and located within the area.
The channels that meet all the requirements of the specifications will be marked with indelible ink used in the food and be identified by a numbered tag affixed to one of the hind limbs, which records the weight and the distinctiveness of the IGP .
