The City Council scheduled a series of documentaries about environmental issues (09/02/2011)

The City of Caravaca de la Cruz has scheduled a series called "Eco-documentary", which will address the main risks and environmental problems afflicting the planet.

"They are going to project four documentaries on issues of great significance for conservation of natural areas and knowledge of current global environmental problems to think about them and motivate behavior change," said the Head of the Middle Environment in the Consistory, Antonia Maria Alvarez.

The documentary, which screened on 16 February to 18 May in the House of Culture Emilio Sáez, on topics as diverse as the indiscriminate dumping of waste into the oceans, global drought, climate change and the deliberate reduction the life of the products to increase their consumption.

Programming:

- 16 February.

17.30.

"Plastic Ocean".

The oceans are turning into a dump.

The indiscriminate dumping of plastic waste and chemicals are seriously threatening the food chain.

The numbers are really dramatic: of all the garbage dumped into the oceans annually, 80% are plastic objects.

Each square meter of the surface of oceans and seas contain thousands of harmful waste this material.

The scientific community has warned of the magnitude of the pollution of our maritime space and the harmful effects it is causing environmental disaster in the species that inhabit it.

This interesting documentary, we see how in Holland have been cases of seabirds and fish that have died due to ingestion of such waste, or whales and dolphins in California suffered a painful death caused by this reason.

What will the impact of this "plastic pollution" on the planet if we fail to stop it?

What can we do to mitigate their harmful effects?.

-16 March, 17.30.

"Blue Gold, the water war."

In future wars will be fought not over oil, but by something much more basic and necessary for life: water.

Corporate giants, private investors and corrupt governments and today compete for control of our fresh water supplies are increasingly scarce.

This documentary, based on the popular book Blue Gold Maude Barlow and Tony Clarke, will demonstrate how the planet is approaching a dangerously fast, world water crisis.

-13 April, 17.30.

"Climate change in Spain."

Climate change in Spain: a challenge for everyone, produced by National Geographic Channel with the help of Endesa, born in the light of the publication of the Fourth Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), sponsored by the UN, which confirms that, so "unequivocal" warming phenomenon is due largely to emissions from human activity, and which stresses the need to reduce them if they want to avoid dramatic global changes.

This documentary focuses on climate change impacts that affect specifically the Spanish territory.

Spain is today one of the developed countries most affected by climate change, and of these, which looks even worse if the Earth's temperature continues to rise.

Water shortages, the risk of desertification, sea level rise and the number of fires and the loss of biodiversity and depletion of growing crops to hit our country.

But the documentary not only examines the problems, but its main objective: to show number of initiatives have been launched in the fight against climate change, and demonstrate how technology and alternative energy sources are making changes in many patterns.

-18 May, 17.30.

"Buy, pull, buy."

A documentary about planned obsolescence, or whatever it is, the deliberate reduction in the life of a product to increase consumption.

Built to last no batteries to 'die' at 18 months of being released, printers that are blocked on reaching a certain number of prints, lamps that melt a thousand hours ... Why, despite technological advances, consumer products last less and less?
