The Consumer Office of Caravaca performs a total of 3,038 services during 2017, between claims and consultations (25/01/2018)

The Municipal Consumer Office (OMIC) of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz made a total of 3,038 attendances last year, of which 408 are complaints and 2,630 correspond to consultations of consumers and users of services.

The councilor responsible for the area of ​​Consumer Affairs and Commerce in the Caravaqueño Consistory, Gloria Gómez, accompanied by the technician responsible for the (OMIC), Lola Sánchez, has made a balance of the operation of this service, indicating that "the consultations and claims attended in the last twelve months represent an increase of 1% over the previous year, continuing with the upward trend of recent years, which confirms that this municipal service is present and close to the residents of our municipality, having also achieved a decrease in open files, fruit of the work of the previous mediation ".

Of the total claims submitted in 2017, 66% of them are filed when resolved, 8% have been referred to the Consumer Arbitration Board, 8% are pending Mediation, 13% are waiting for Submission a Arbitration and a 5% has been derived to the competent bodies to resolve.

By sectors, and following the trend of previous years, fixed and mobile telephony, bank commissions, personal and mortgage loans and gas contracts are the areas that focus the most attention.

Above these are the consultations on administrative procedures, which concentrate 58% of the total of the services that the OMIC carried out during 2017, informing and guiding the consumer and / or user of the necessary steps to follow in their approaches.

The Councilor for Trade and Consumption has advanced some of the actions that will be carried out within the annual awareness campaign on the rights and duties of consumers and users, such as workshops aimed at the second year of Early Childhood Education on responsible consumption, biweekly section on the municipal radio station 'Caravaca Radio', the periodic collaborations on the web portal soydecaravaca.com and the program on local television on the occasion of the 'International Consumer Day' on defense mechanisms.

In addition, this year the campaign will be repeated to ensure that a greater number of professional establishments adhere to the Consumer Arbitration System, as an extrajudicial instrument, fast, effective and free of charge that allows resolving claims, guaranteeing better protection of rights.

To date there are 348 local businesses that are part of this system.

The OMIC of Caravaca de la Cruz is located on the ground floor of the Town Hall.

Its opening hours are from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and Wednesdays, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
