The last Plenary Session of the City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz approved the appointment of 'Favorite Son of the City', posthumously, to Antonio García Martínez-Reina, mayor of the municipality between 1987 and 1999. The proposal, presented by the Government team , with the support of estates and social and cultural groups, was approved with the unanimous support of the political groups represented at the table and with numerous family members, friends and colleagues gathered in the Plenary Hall.
During the debate, both the mayor and the spokespersons highlighted personal, political and professional aspects of Antonio García Martínez-Reina.
Specifically, from the Government team, Enrique Fuentes annotated some of the achievements made during his three terms in the Caravaqueño Consistory, as the measures of revitalization of the historic center, the acquisition of the site of the sources of the Marquis, the construction of social housing , the reform of the Town Hall and the Plaza de Toros, the creation of the House of Culture, as well as other municipal public infrastructures, such as the social centers of the districts or sports halls.
Antonio García Martínez-Reina, after passing through the municipal policy, returned to his work as a teacher and returned to teaching in the District Center for Adult Education of the Northwest, in a building located on the premises -the Cervantes school- where he practiced before being mayor of the caravaqueños, developing an intense educational work during the last 12 years.
Also related to the Municipal Regulation of Honors and Distinctions, the Plenary approved the opening of the file for the granting of the title of 'Adoptive Son of Caravaca de la Cruz' to Francisco Navarro Sánchez, a proposal that went ahead with the favorable vote of all the political groups, after the request made to the Consistory by neighbors of the town.
Since his arrival in Caravaca from the Puebla de Don Fadrique, more than six decades ago, Francisco Navarro has been closely linked to the local society in different areas, such as business, festive or cultural.
In another order of matters, the last regular session gave the green light to the initial approval of the non-structural modification of the General Plan of Urban Planning (PGOU), number 94, Las Aguzaderas site, promoted by Arias Moreno Agropecuarias SL, in representation of owners of livestock farms that are in the area.
This point counted on the abstention of the municipal group of Izquierda Unida and the favorable vote of the rest of the political groups.
On the other hand, the points referring to the initial approval of the Municipal Tax Service Ordinance and the motion presented by the Municipal People's Group for the promotion of road safety for cyclists and accident prevention went forward unanimously.
Finally, the motions of the Popular Group on the adequate maintenance of green areas of the municipality and districts were approved, with the votes in favor of PP, CS and IU and the abstention of the PSOE, and the motion of the Municipal Citizens Group to urge the Government of the Nation to equate the salaries of the State Security Forces and Bodies, with the votes in favor of PSOE, PP and Cs and the vote against IU.
Another of the points approved, in this case unanimously, was the motion of the Municipal Citizens Group to support and provide resources to the 'Eurovelo European Route Mediterranean Network' as it passes through Caravaca.
