The City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz will attend the third edition of the European funds of the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI).

In the extraordinary plenary session held yesterday the strategy "Caravaca 2024. Patrimonio de Futuro", which has a budget of 6,250,000 euros, was approved unanimously, of which 80% would be financed through FEDER funds and the rest would be municipal contribution.

"In recent months we have worked on improving the document, adapting it to the requirements of the new call, which requires a greater weight in the investment in actions aimed at the fight against poverty and social inclusion", as he explained during the plenary session the councilor responsible for the area of Urbanism, Enrique Fuentes, who also recalled that the project submitted to the second convocation by the Caravaqueño Consistory obtained the third best score in the Region of Murcia, the thirteen municipalities that attended the call , although finally only the one presented by the Murcia City Council was selected.

The objective pursued by opting for this EDUSI call is the achievement of economic funds for environmentally sustainable urban development, promoting social revitalization projects that contribute to urban and socioeconomic cohesion and that preserve the existing cultural and natural heritage.

The European Union requires that projects that opt for financing with ERDF funds be integrated into a common development strategy, covering all the important aspects of the municipality.

The approved strategy includes 525,000 euros for measures to implement electronic administration and the development of a Smart Cities plan in the municipality;

1,400,000 euros for a plan to promote sustainable mobility that promotes pedestrian and bicycle displacements and 150,000 euros for measures aimed at energy efficiency.

It also provides an allocation of 900,000 euros for improving tourism infrastructure and 600,000 for urban regeneration.

The most important endowment, with a total of 2,450,000 euros, which represents 38.8% of the strategy, is aimed at promoting social inclusion and the fight against poverty, including several lines of action, such as a training school for people in risk of social exclusion and its inclusion in the labor market or a rehabilitation plan for housing in disadvantaged neighborhoods to make them available to young people and people at risk of social exclusion.

This third edition EDUSI, whose deadline for submission ends on November 28, is endowed with more than 22 million euros for municipalities in the Region of Murcia.

It is expected that it will be resolved within a period of 6 months.
